The Phillips lab is currently recruiting MSc and PhD students for 2025.
To apply to the lab, first send a cover letter with your research interests, a CV, and transcripts to michaelandrew.phillips@toronto.ca
Students will enroll though the Graduate Program in Cell & Systems Biology. Although the University of Toronto strongly supports graduate applications from domestic applicants, international applications with exceptional records will also be considered.
UTM undergraduate students
UTM undergraduates can get involved in research in the lab in three ways:
- Apply to posted Research Opportunity Projects on the ROPapp in January – February for summer or fall/winter projects
- Contact me directly regarding a 4th year BIO481 project in June – Aug
- Apply to a posted work study position on the CLNx website
Get paid to earn your MSc or PhD
Starting in 2025, graduate students in the Phillips lab will receive an expected living stipend of $40,000/year for the duration of the degree program (2 years for MSc, 5 years for PhD).
Graduate student projects: Research in the Phillips lab broadly addresses plant metabolism with an emphasis on the biochemistry of terpenoids. Individual research projects are tailored to each student. While addressing fundamental scientific questions in plant biology, you will obtain marketable skills in biochemistry, bioinformatics, mass spectrometry, molecular biology, and plant biotechnology.
The deadline for applications to the graduate program is in February of each year. The start date for incoming students is early September. For additional questions, email me at michaelandrew.phillips@utoronto.ca.
